Special Gantry Crane Systems
Vector Lifting designs and builds various types of mobile cranes
including this motorized gantry crane at the Jervois Bay marine assembly
complex in WA.
It is Australia's biggest portal crane, standing 35m high and spanning
65m.
The enormous 150 tonne portal crane with 50 tonne auxiliary hoist, is
the centerpiece of a huge assembly hall also designed and assembled by
Vector Lifting at the complex.
The crane is self-propelled and travels backwards and forwards on
special bogies to carry large componentry from inside the hall down to
awaiting ships for further transport.
The installation took nine hydraulic cranes, ranging from 15tonne to 400
tonne in capacity, to secure the four main components of the portal
crane . . . two horizontal beams weighing 155t, plus a 96 tonne rigid leg
and a 58 tonne slender leg into position more
